Sarah, the lovely lady behind Joyfully Sewn Designs, has an eye for lovely clothing designs that are just right for little girls. Cheery colors combine with little ruffles and just the right amount of twirl that makes any little girl giggle.
When Sarah first contacted me about reviewing one of her items, it was so hard to choose one. I looked over and over again on her site and just admired everything she makes! I decided on a sweet jumper that I knew my middle daughter would adore for her birthday.
I loved that this jumper was really full. This little girl is a hilarious combination of girly-girl-who-loves-princesses-tea-parties-and-ballerinas and rough-and-tumble-playmate-for-her-brother-who-loves-catching-and-cuddling-with-toads. I needed something that would appeal to her girly side while also giving her lots of room to run and play.
She loves it, indeed! With hair bows to match, Miss A was absolutely delighted when we gave her this dress for her birthday.

Handmade clothing can be beautiful as can be, but as I’ve written about before, it has to meet our convictions on modesty in order for it to get a green light for our girls.
I love Sarah’s heart for modesty, and it shines through in everything she makes for Joyfully Sewn Designs. She takes great care to ensure that little girls can look adorable and modest while wearing her clothing items.
I often cringe when I see clothing items being marketed to girls. Some have no hint of innocence and look far too grown up for my preferences. I want to keep the little in my little girls for as long as they want to keep it. Clothing from Joyfully Sewn Designs is wholesome and Sarah doesn’t buy into the rush to grow up that’s often pushed on our daughters.
And I just have to mention this one: Sarah even makes the cutest pantaloons and bloomers to go under skirts and dresses! I just think that’s too fun. If you have little girls in skirts, then you understand why garments like that are helpful during playtime. 
Joyfully Sewn Designs is Quality
Sarah is an excellent seamstress. All of her seams and the edges of fabric are professionally surged. If you aren’t familiar with sewing, that makes sure that the edges of the fabric don’t fray and unravel, and it also helps to extend the life of the garment.
When I get a handmade item, I often flip it inside out to check out the seams. I like to look at button holes, arm holes, necklines, and how securely buttons are affixed. I may not be a professional seamstress, but I can at least spot sloppy work!
Sarah’s work really is professional and something she can sell with confidence. Nothing is done just good enough. Seams are straight and very secure. Her work for Joyfully Sewn Designs is precise and she clearly pays close attention to detail.
The dress for our Miss A feels sturdy, yet still comfortable. The fabric isn’t a cheap lightweight cotton, but something that will hold up through many wears and washes. The bows that Sarah makes to go with her dresses are a sweet touch to complete a look, too, and these are also very well made.
Joyfully Sewn Designs is Affordable
I’ve seen handmade dresses for girls that are in the $50-$60 range. Some families may find that perfectly suitable, especially for birthdays or special events. No doubt they are quality items, too. But we simply can’t swing clothing expenses like that and buy, say, groceries.
Miss A loves hats, so I purchased a custom made hat to go with the dress for her birthday. She was delighted!
However, the prices at Joyfully Sewn Designs are much more affordable. When I first looked through the online catalog, I was pleasantly surprised by Sarah’s prices, and I can enthusiastically attest that her items are worth every cent.
